Automated Dewar Filling
- What is a Dewar?
A dewar is typically a portable storage tank for liquid nitrogen or another cryogenic liquid. They are used to enable a source of liquid nitrogen to be close to the equipment using it to save on vacuum insulated piping runs. This is most often when either the consumption of liquid nitrogen is relatively low or the equipment is not in constant use.
A second type of dewar is that used in research applications and in particular with SEM systems (Scanning Electron Microscopes) these have a small have at the top where liquid nitrogen is often poured by hand.
- Why do I need an automated filler?
If you have a bulk tank on site you can fill your dewar directly from it. This saves on the price charged by gas suppliers to top up dewars themselves. If you already filling your own dewars then it would allow you to plug in the dewar to fill and walk away from it returning sometime later. Normally dewar filling would have to supervised using an automated system frees up valuable manpower.
For research applications a system would eliminate the health and safety concerns with filling dewars by hand.
- Which Dewar Filler is suitabke for me?
For larger portable dewars to be filled from a bulk tank then the ADF10 is required.
For research applications and SEM systems the SafeFill should be used.
